Avago Technologies AVGO (AVGO) is a Singapore based semiconductor manufacturer that is set to benefit from the launch of the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C from Apple AAPL (AAPL) as well as the growing need for Small Cell BTS systems.
The company has had a long-term relationship with Apple. Apple has been using power amplifiers from Avago in its iPhones. About 17% of Avago sales are to Foxconn. Foxconn is the Apple contractor that manufactures iPhones. Components of Avago are also found in iPads.
Avago specializes in III-V semiconductors. The III-V reference comes from the groups in the periodic table. Many Avago products are based on materials from these groups such as, gallium, arsenide, gallium nitride, and indium phosphide.
The company was founded in 1961. In the 1960s the first commercial light emitting diode dot matrix display was introduced by this company. In the 1970s, Avago was the first with commercially available fiber optic transmitters and receivers. In the 1990s, the company introduced the world’s brightest LED at that time.
For years, Avago was the leader in providing optical mouse sensors that eliminated the need for mouse pads. As wireless devices and networks proliferated, the company has become a leader in amplifiers, attenuators, filters, and front end modules.
