Congratulations to Arora members!
Natural gas producer Range Resources (RRC) has received a buyout offer from EQT. This is the 231st buyout of an Arora Portfolio company.
RRC is long in The Arora Portfolio from $26.03. On October 26, RRC was trading around $53.01, giving Arora members a 103% gain.
There is an interesting story behind this buyout. It starts with our early analysis of artificial intelligence (AI), leads to natural gas, and includes two buyouts and large gains in three natural gas stocks.
The three stocks are RRC, EQT, and ETRN.
Here is what happened and why.
Why We Bought RRC
Most investors looking to profit from AI have been focused on semiconductor companies, software companies, and other obvious AI beneficiaries.
Our analysis led us to natural gas.
We saw early that AI would require enormous amounts of electricity. AI data centers need reliable power, and natural gas turbines were likely to play an important role in meeting the demand.
We expected demand for natural gas to increase as AI data centers expanded.
We also expected consolidation in the natural gas industry. Large natural gas producers would have an incentive to acquire other companies to increase production, gain access to additional reserves, and improve economies of scale.
Our analysis showed that some natural gas companies could benefit from both growing AI demand and potential buyouts.
This was one of the reasons we bought RRC.
Our entry price was $26.03.
Now EQT has offered to acquire RRC in an all-stock transaction. RRC shareholders are to receive 0.987 shares of EQT for every RRC share. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.
The gain in RRC is 103%.
Of course, the deal has not closed yet, and the value of the offer will fluctuate with EQT’s stock price.
ETRN — Our First Buyout In This Story
On December 1, 2023, we published a post on oil and gas pipeline company Equitrans Midstream (ETRN).
The title was:
“A NEW IDEA ON OIL AND GAS PIPELINE COMPANY ETRN — BUYOUT TARGET”
We identified ETRN as a buyout target and gave members a buy zone of $8.52–$9.98.
On March 11, 2024, EQT announced it was buying ETRN.
This was the 193rd buyout of an Arora Portfolio company.
The deal was an all-stock offer of 0.3504 EQT shares for each ETRN share.
There was an interesting twist.
Investors were not particularly enthusiastic about the deal. EQT shares fell sharply because investors thought EQT was overpaying for ETRN.
We looked at the situation differently.
For ETRN shareholders, the buyout was positive. More importantly, we saw an opportunity in EQT itself.
Natural gas was trading near generational lows. We expected natural gas to benefit over the long term from increasing electricity demand, including demand from AI data centers.
Here was an opportunity to own a major natural gas producer when natural gas prices were depressed.
We also recognized the risk. Natural gas is volatile, and prices can go even lower when they are already near generational lows.
Our call to members who understood the opportunity and the risk was to continue holding ETRN.
When EQT acquired ETRN, the ETRN holding became EQT shares.
We continued to recommend holding EQT.
EQT — The Hidden AI Opportunity
On July 22, 2026, we published another post:
“89% GAIN ON NATURAL GAS PRODUCER EQT — EARNINGS BETTER THAN WHISPER NUMBERS — AI BENEFICIARY”
In that post, we explained why EQT was a hidden AI play.
AI data centers consume enormous amounts of electricity. Many use natural gas turbines, directly or through the electricity supply chain. EQT is a major natural gas producer.
As AI-related electricity demand increases, EQT is positioned to benefit.
There is another reason we liked EQT. It has the scale to participate in the consolidation of the natural gas industry.
EQT is long in The Arora Portfolio from $28.14.
On October 26, 2026, EQT was trading around $54.22, representing a 92% gain.
EQT has traded as high as $68.24.
There have been significant fluctuations along the way. Recently, EQT pulled back because of concerns about AI data centers.
Members have received ongoing analysis and instructions on EQT, including our assessment of the pullback and what to do with their positions.
We consider EQT a very long-term position.
Now EQT Is Buying RRC
Here is what makes the latest buyout especially interesting.
EQT bought ETRN, which was already in The Arora Portfolio.
Our call was to continue holding EQT.
Now EQT is buying RRC, another Arora Portfolio stock.
RRC is showing a 103% gain, and EQT is showing a 92% gain.
The two buyouts came more than two years apart. During that time, our natural gas thesis continued to develop as AI data centers expanded and demand for electricity increased.
The common thread was our analysis of where the AI revolution was likely to create investment opportunities.
Investors who focus only on the most popular AI stocks can miss opportunities in other industries that benefit from AI.
Natural gas is one example.
We did not need natural gas companies to become fashionable AI stocks. We needed demand for their product to increase, and we needed to identify companies with attractive valuations and favorable prospects.
In the case of ETRN and RRC, the buyout potential also became a reality.
Why The Arora Report Is Different
The real work in investing is not simply recognizing that AI is going to be big.
By now, just about everyone knows that.
The challenge is figuring out which companies will benefit, how much of the potential benefit is already reflected in stock prices, and where investors can make money without taking unnecessary risks.
Sometimes the opportunity is in a semiconductor stock. Sometimes it is in a company supplying electricity, natural gas, cooling equipment, or other infrastructure that makes AI possible.
And sometimes the best opportunity is in a stock that most investors do not even associate with AI.
Our analysis goes beyond identifying investment themes. We look at valuations, catalysts, risks, money flows, and potential buyouts. We then give members specific buy zones, signals, and instructions on what to do as circumstances change.
It is also important to know when to take profits, when to continue holding, and when to patiently wait instead of chasing a stock.
RRC and EQT are good examples of why these decisions matter.
Members who own RRC have already received specific instructions following the buyout announcement. EQT members have also received updated guidance.
The analysis does not stop after a stock is recommended.
How Much Money Could You Have Made From Just One Idea?
Consider what happened with our natural gas investments.
ETRN: Identified as a buyout target in December 2023 with a buy zone of $8.52–$9.98. EQT announced the acquisition in March 2024. Our call was to continue holding for the longer-term opportunity.
EQT: Came into The Arora Portfolio through the ETRN acquisition. Long from $28.14 for portfolio tracking purposes. Up 92% as of October 26.
RRC: Long from $26.03. Now being bought out by EQT. Up 103% as of October 26.
The ETRN-to-EQT holding is one continuous investment path, so its returns should not be counted twice.
Think about the money involved.
If you had invested $10,000 in RRC at our recorded entry price of $26.03, your investment would have been worth about $20,365 at the October 26 price of $53.01, before taxes and transaction costs.
That is a gain of about $10,365 from RRC alone.
Depending on the service you subscribe to, the profit from just this one stock could have paid for multiple years of The Arora Report membership.
And this does not include the opportunity in ETRN and EQT.
The important thing is that these gains came from one broad investment idea: AI would drive increased demand for electricity, natural gas would play an important role, and consolidation in the natural gas industry could create additional opportunities.
Of course, not all investments work out, and past performance is no guarantee of future results. This is why we put so much emphasis on risk management and providing members with ongoing guidance.
Over nearly two decades, 231 Arora Portfolio companies have received buyout offers.
RRC is the latest.
The next opportunity may have nothing to do with natural gas. It could be in AI, biotechnology, energy, emerging markets, or another industry where our analysis identifies an attractive opportunity before it becomes obvious to most investors.
That is what we work on every day.
Just one good investment idea, properly executed, can make a substantial difference to your portfolio. As the RRC example shows, it can also pay for years of membership.
