Aggressive FTC

Note the following:

  • The chart shows that the market was running up on momo crowd buying in advance of PPI data to be released tomorrow morning.  Please see the Morning Capsule.
  • The chart shows when the rumors started that the FTC would block Microsoft’s (MSFT) acquisition of Activision (ATVI).
  • The chart shows when the news of the FTC suing MSFT broke.  The market fell less than expected on the news due to recent sponsorship of ATVI and MSFT by Wall Street.  ATVI stock also fell less than expected, again due to the sponsorship by Wall Street.
  • MSFT stock is positive as of this writing.
  • Encouraged by the price action in ATVI and MSFT stocks, buying is coming into the stock market.  In traditional technical analysis, this is a buy signal.
  • When Biden appointed Lina Khan to the FTC, the expectations were that she would block big tech buyouts.  However, lately Wall Street had come to believe that she would go easy.  Wall Street has been proven to be wrong, but the momo crowd is buying stocks anyways based on hope strategy ahead of PPI.
  • The VUD indicator is the most sensitive measure of net supply demand in real-time. The orange represents net supply and the green represents net demand.
  • The VUD indicator is mostly green, indicating net demand for stocks.  Note that the VUD indicator turned orange on the FTC news, but the magnitude was significantly smaller than would have been expected.  This is due to strong momo crowd buying ahead of PPI.
