The wait is finally over. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the latest video game in Activision’s (ATVI) hit franchise is hitting home gaming machines.
Modern Warfare 3 maybe the biggest launch ever compared to any movie, game, or music that our world has seen. Most estimates are that this video game will generate over $1 billion in its first six weeks of release. As is the tradition in the Modern Warfare franchise, this game puts the gamers into the roles of soldiers fighting battles in the first person. The early reviews have been stellar.
After the market close on Tuesday, Activision reported $627 million in revenue, way ahead of the consensus estimate of $558 million. For the all-important Christmas quarter, Activision expects revenues of $2.17 billion, which is also ahead of the consensus estimate of $2.1 billion.
The company also provides extremely strong guidance for the full year ‘” $0.85 per share in earnings compared to the consensus of $0.77 and revenues of $4.25 billion compared to the consensus of $4.05 billion.
The big factor in increased guidance is an offering called Call of Duty Elite. This option costs an additional $50 per annum to let gamers connect with other gamers on the net.
