I was surprised at the number of emails I received telling me that I was wrong in response to my article Five Reasons To Buy New iPad From Apple.
The crux of most of such emails is that the new iPad from Apple (AAPL) is an evolutionary upgrade and not a revolutionary device. “It is not even an iPad 3,” is the most often quoted line. Apple chose to name its new device ‘the new iPad’.
The naysayers contend that the existing iPad 2 is fast enough and as such there is no need for most users to upgrade to the new iPad with a faster processor. The point that is missed is that the new iPad has four times the resolution of iPad 2.
All these pixels need processing power to be driven. Without a faster processor, the super high resolution in the new iPad would not have led to a good user experience.
The resolution of the new iPad screen is better than full 1080p HD. Some see no utility for such high resolution.
The other most often given reason is the popularity of Samsung (SSNGY) Galaxy line of tablets which are based on Google (GOOG) Android.
If the preliminary data is an indication, naysayers may be wrong. Computerworld reports Apple has sold out of the new iPad in every country where it would be launched on Friday.
Computerworld also reports that Hong Kong’s online store says the new iPad is currently unavailable.
