4 STOCKS TO PROFIT FROM THE FED GOLD MINE $AAPL $ABX $CDE $DIA $GDX $GDXJ $GLD $NEM $PAAS $QQQ $SH $SLV $SLW $SPX $SPY $WMT

The Federal Reserve provides a gold mine of both medium-term investment opportunities and short-term trading opportunities. The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) holds eight regularly scheduled meetings every year. One of those is being held this week, with a rate decision set to be announced at 2:15 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday. The chart below shows an investable pattern in the medium-term stemming from the decisions of the Federal Reserve. There are strikingly similar movements in the S&P 500 SPX arising from QE2, Operation Twist, and QE3. There is much consternation about the stock market drop last Friday and on Tuesday. However,

NEW IDEA ON HASBRO $HAS

This post was just published on ZYX Short Sell Change Alert. Consider shorting a 10% tranche in the zone of $39.80 – $40.60. HAS reported good earnings this morning. The up move in the stock is a shorting opportunity for the long-term. The reason is that parents are spending less money on traditional toys and more money on phones, tablets and software. HAS is swimming against the long-term trend. The plan is to short more if the stock goes higher. No stop for the time being. Target zone is $32-34.

BIG RED FLAG LOST IN HOOPLA OF GOOGLE’S PREMATURE EMISSION $GOOG $AAPL $RRD $LNKD $FB $AMZN $YELP

(GOOG) was scheduled to release earnings after the market close.  Inadvertently, earnings were released at 12:39 PM by its agent RR Donnelley (RRD).  Google stock fell about 9% before it was halted.  Both revenues and earnings were below consensus.  To make matters worse, whisper numbers were higher than consensus. In my analysis whisper numbers crept higher, not because of fundamentals but because investors who move money from Apple (AAPL) into Google were justifying their move and analysts had to justify their recent upgrades. Most of the hoopla is about the early release, how some investors have been hurt by the early release

CLOUD IS HOT, BUT THIS IPO IS PURE INSANITY $AAPL $GOOG $MSFT $WDAY $ORCL $SAP $IBM $CRM

Cloud computing is hot. Even lay consumers who hadn’t heard of it only a year ago, not only know about cloud, but now they use it every day. If you are an Apple AAPL iPhone user, you are probably using iCloud. If you are a Google GOOG  Android user and using voice recognition, you are connecting to cloud. If you are using Microsoft MSFT  Office, you are probably connecting to SkyDrive, which in essence is allowing you to work in the cloud. Cloud computing simply means use of remote hardware and software over a network such as the Internet. The name

WILL OBAMA BE A ONE TERM PRESIDENT BECAUSE APPLE’S STEVE JOBS SAID SO? $AAPL

AAPL is a symbol of American innovation, but it has created more jobs in China than in America. “IPad, the Macs, the iPhones, they are all manufactured in China,” Candy Crowley asked in the presidential debate Tuesday night. “One of the major reasons is labor is so much cheaper. How do you convince a great American company to bring that manufacturing back here?” As Crowley asked the question my thought immediately went to Steve Jobs‘ account of a meeting with Obama as described in his biography by Walter Isaacson.  Jobs told Obama that he was headed for a one term presidency.

FREEDOMPOP SHOWS HOW APPLE AS WE KNOW IT MAY DIE SOMEDAY $AAPL

FreedomPop is a new start-up that plans to challenge AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ) by providing free mobile data–500 MB per month. Both AT&T and Verizon have huge margins on mobile data because of the lack of competition.  AT&T and Verizon use these big margins to subsidize Apple‘s iPhone, Google‘s Android and other devices. The big carriers provide a higher amount of subsidies on iPhones than on Android devices.  An iPhone that costs the consumer $199 may cost a carrier $500 to $700 even though they may be buying millions of these devices.  The carriers more than make up for the upfront subsidies over the life of the
