Applied Materials (AMAT) announced a new breakthrough technology in semiconductor manufacturing. The challenge with semiconductors is printing an increasing amount in a small space.
One way to print more on each chip is to repeat a pattern twice. AMAT unveiled its new technology called Centura Sculpta. AMAT’s new tool allows for the pattern to be printed the first time with lithography and then the second time the pattern is printed it is actually sculpted from the first pattern. This breakthrough technology in lithography and materials engineering will lower the cost of manufacturing chips.
Artificial Intelligence
The breakthrough comes at a time when demand for more space on chips is increasing due to breakthroughs in artificial intelligence. AMAT makes semiconductor manufacturing equipment. AMAT will benefit from an increase in demand for chips in this golden age of artificial intelligence.
