Electric Vertical Takeoff And Landing
Joby Aviation is using electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL). eVTOL aircraft are similar to a helicopter, but are fully electric, quieter, and safer due to multiple tilting rotors. eVTOL aircraft are designed for shorter flights and may be useful as air taxis, for cargo delivery, and in emergency response.
Joby Aviation’s flagship aircraft is designed to carry four passengers and fly 100 miles on a single charge.
Joby Aviation is using eVTOL to develop air taxis and aircraft for the U.S. Air Force. The company is also working on hydrogen-electric propulsion.
Toyota Investment
Toyota (TM) has an existing investment in Joby Aviation and just bought about 50M new shares. This brings Toyota’s total ownership to 15.3%.
