Apple is ready to introduce an old design by Steve Jobs as the next iPhone, perhaps called iPhone 5S, according to the San Francisco Examiner, reporting on comments Apple government liaison Michael Foulkes made to San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon. Foulkes reportedly told Gascon that the next two generations of iPhones have already been developed and they preceded Cook.
The Wall Street Journal is reportingthat the next iPhone will be similar in size and shape to iPhone 5. The Journal also reports that the difference in the innards of the next iPhone from iPhone 5 remains unclear. If history is any guide, the innards of the next iPhone are likely to represent only evolutionary changes from iPhone 5.
There is certainly merit to a smaller screen size in a phone that comfortably fits in one’s hand and allows actions using one hand. However, the word ‘phone’ in present day devices called smartphones is increasingly becoming a misnomer. Users are increasingly talking less on these devices and using them more and more as computing devices. For all data related activities, larger screen sizes make more sense. One does not need to look farther than the popularity of Samsung Galaxy SIII to understand that users increasingly prefer larger screens. The upcoming Galaxy SIV will have an even larger screen.
Clearly the smartphone now has three segments: small screen, medium screen, and large screen. iPhone 5 is an example of a small screen, Samsung Galaxy SIII and Nokia Lumia series as well as BlackBerry Z10 are examples of medium screens, and Samsung Galaxy SIV and Samsung Note II are examples of large screens…Read more at Forbes
