ZUCKERBERG HITS THE BALL OUT OF THE PARK

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, hit the ball out of the park in his first interview since Facebook’s initial public offering (IPO).

Since the IPO, Facebook has lost about half of its value.  The consensus among most analysts has been that mobile strategy is Facebook’s Achilles’ heel.

If Zuckerberg is to be believed, and there is no reason not to believe him, Facebook’s mobile strategy is gaining steam.  Zuckerberg stated that Facebook will make more money on mobile than on desktop.  Zuckerberg said,

One of the main things that I think is misunderstood is how fundamentally good it is on a bunch of different levels.

Zuckerberg said that some mobile ads are performing better than legacy ads and Facebook is building new methods to monetize mobile.

Zuckerberg admitted that the prior Facebook strategy to focus on HTML 5 for building apps was a strategic mistake. It took Facebook about eight months to build the framework and about four more months to figure out that HTML 5 did not perform as well as native apps.

According to Zuckerberg, now Facebook is focused on native apps. Recently Facebook has been inserting ads into the mobile news feed.

Most important is close integration with Apple (AAPL) devices and improved iOS application.  A new Google (GOOG) app is under development.
