On Dec 29, 2011, the United States Patent and Trademark Office published a patent application by Apple titled Low Threshold Face Recognition. As an electrical engineer with a long background in patents, I recognize that most patents do not amount to anything. But this patent is different. In my opinion, Apple is once again about to change how we function in our daily lives. Imagine no more passwords.

The U.S. International Commission (ITC) ruled today that HTC has infringed claims 1 and 8 of the ‘647 patent on system and method for performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data held by Apple(AAPL). ITC has banned the importation of infringing HTC phones in the U.S. HTC phones run on Google (GOOG) Android system. The ban will go into effect on April 19, 2012. The ban is subject to residential veto. In my opinion, there is no chance of a veto from President Obama. ITC has pushed the ban to April to provide transition time
